Elk River Books Presents Scott McMillion
January 20th, at 7 p.m.
![]() |
Award-winning journalist Scott McMillion will read from the new edition of his enormously popular bear book, Mark of the Grizzly, at Elk River Books on Friday, January 20th, at 7 p.m.
Mark of the Grizzly focuses on the nightmarish scenarios that can unfold when bears attack. A regional bestseller when it was first released in 1998, the latest edition includes new
chapters on more recent tragedies (including the deaths at Kitty Creek and Soda Butte near Yellowstone in 2010), delves further into the science of bear biology, and continues McMillion's
examination into the ways people and grizzlies can walk away from such encounters unscathed.
McMillion is a Livingston native, known best locally for his years reporting at the Bozeman Daily Chronicle, but he's lived and traveled around the world. His work has been featured on The News Hour with Jim Lehrer, and appears regularly in the Nature Conservancy magazine. He currently edits the Montana Quarterly. We are thrilled to welcome him, and to invite the public to this free event. A reception and book signing will follow the presentation.
